Cosy Woodpecker Cottage

Hi Caroline.

You should take a look at our new Cottage websites - http://www.cosywoodpeckercottage.com/.

If you are looking for Salt Spring Accomoation we would love to welcome you, and also there is a things to do on Salt Spring page - http://www.cosywoodpeckercottage.com/things-to-do/.

Some personal recommendations would be - Salt Spring Cheese - lots of cheese tasting and you can see the whole process. Mount Maxwell for the view. Beaches - there are lots, and they are all different - great for a hot day relaxing or hunting for interesting tidal creatures! Saturday Market almost goes without saying. Ruckle Park has a historic farm and good hiking. Thats just a few off the top of my head....

I am planning a trip in June 2013 with my husband and 2 year old. Do you have any recommendations for a fun family day with a toddler. Maybe some must do's?

OK I haven't recently read this - it was a few years ago, but it is a landmark book from a very interesting author. (*****)

  • Markus Zusak: The Book Thief

This is a great example of storytelling. A different (if overplayed at times) angle means Death is narrating the story of Liesel a spunky girl who lives in Germany in the Second World War. I didn't always like the style of prose/writing and it took me a while to get into it, BUT, I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and interactions, the way such a difficult time is narrated, the 'human-ness' of it all. Sadness, a childhood interrupted - and yet not. Ultimately thought-provoking and uplifting. (****)

For info: This is the import cover design which I MUCH prefer!
